Greetings everyone! The following is just a sample of the many wonderful events happening in and outside of the iSchool. I hope this inspires some of you to get up and out this week (procrastination intended)!
I. RELAUNCH OF MUSINGS BLOG
Date: October 9th
When: 3:30-5:00 pm
Where: Student Lounge (Room 705A), 140 St. George Street
What: Come and celebrate the relaunch of Musings (MMSt Student Blog) at our Fall-themed mixer, with plenty of food, music, and fun all-round! Be sure to check out our cookie decorating station.

II. ALUMNI STARS MIXER
Date: October 9th
When: 5:00-6:30 pm
Where: 4th Floor, 140 St. George Street
What: Take the time to talk with assembled iSchool graduate alumni volunteers and ask them about "life in the field". This is one of the best opportunities this year to speak directly with knowledge management, archive, information systems, and museum professionals who are more than happy to share their work experiences. Date: October 10th
When: Doors open at 7:00 pm
Where: Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queens Park
What: It's back! This week's theme, "Thanks Canada", will feature the home-grown bounty of Canada complete with eclectic eats, drinks, DJs, dancing, live music, and general shenanigans. Early-bird (online) tickets are now available.

IV. TORONTO DOES HER 'BIT' EXHIBITION
Date: Ongoing until early 2015
Where: The Market Gallery, 2nd Floor of South St. Lawrence Market, 95 Front Street E.
What: This exhibition focuses on life in Toronto during the First World War using archival photographs, artworks and artifacts. It provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to explore one of the pivotal and defining periods in Canadian history. Read the Press Release here.

N.b. And now for something completely different! I came across this article in the Huffington Post the other day, and I feel that it deserves a mention. Very briefly, a hiker stumbled across an abandoned neighbourhood and hotel inside Tennessee's Great Smokey Mountains National Park in late 2013. I always find it incredible the kinds of sites that tend to linger just beyond our inhabited peripheries, unknown but known at the same time. Whether or not this site will join the ranks of the countless visit-able ghost towns/heritage sites that dot both Canada and the United States remains to be seen. Great line up of events! And for those in MSL 2330 - one of your future short assignments is to "research" after hours events, so head out to the ROM on Friday for an "academic" quest :)
