WHAT'S HAPPENING WEDNESDAYS: Reading Week Extended Edition

As we have been reminded of all too often, reading break, isn't really a break but a time for catching up on reading.  Hrmph.  Take a look at this list of fun events and take a break from reading break.  If anyone makes you feel guilty, channel your inner Ross Gellar.

THIS IS NOT A TOY
Date: February 7th - May 19th
Where: Design Exchange, 234 Bay St.
What: Musician Pharrell Williams has "happily"(get it?) joined the Design Exchange as a guest curator to create "This is Not A Toy" a show exploring the concept of the toy through sculpture, figurines and artworks.  This show promises to be just as whimsical as Pharrell's wardrobe (what is up with that hat, anyway?).

Time: 7PM-11PM
Where: Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place, 200 Prices' Blvd
What: Join the Artist Project, a Contemporary Art Fair, for nibbles, drinks, music and of course, ART.   This party has all the anchor tattoo's a vintage-loving gal could ask for.  Seriously.  The theme for the evening is "Set Sail" and if I'm reading things correctly you can get your own (airbrushed) 1940s nautical tattoo!

FANCY VIDEO GAME PARTY*
Date: February 20th
Time: 8PM-12PM
Where: Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St
What: I have a sneaking suspicion that some folks around the iSchool have a love for both museums and video games.  Good news, this event promises both!  This, Thursday AGO will transform into the arcade of your dreams in an event they claim to be "part arcade, part club night and part art gallery." I'm exhausted excited just thinking about it!

* This event seems to have sold out, but use those networking skills and see if you can find a spare ticket!

NINTH ANNUAL BLOOR-YORKVILLE ICEFEST
Date: February 22nd-23rd
Where: Village of Yorkville Park, Cumberland St. and Bellair St.
What: I nearly stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the poster for this on the subway.  Icefest isn't offering your run-of-the-mill ice sculptures, they have promised MAJESTIC ice sculptures.  There will be ice carving demos, competitions and an exhibit of tropical-themed ice sculptures titled "Heat Wave" (a little cruel if you ask me).
